Cardinal Pietro Parolin indicated that the international community continues to hold negotiations, although they are not yet public, in order to reach a truce in Ukraine:

I believe some negotiation is underway, some negotiation is in progress — perhaps not public, not known — and that’s why we hope these contacts can truly lead to... I think, obviously, the involvement of the United States is needed, without a doubt.
In his statement to the media, before celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Bambino Gesù Hospital as an Institute of Treatment and Scientific Research, he also recalled the meeting that Pope Leo XIV had with the Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, who later visited the Secretariat of State of the Holy See to discuss topics such as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.

We hope that Europe — also referring to what Prime Minister Orbán said yesterday — will take on an increasingly leading role with regard to peace. And I think China also has something to say; in fact, President Trump is currently in China, in the Far East somewhat, also to address this issue. I really believe that a great involvement of the entire international community is necessary so that some step toward peace can be taken.
Cardinal Pietro Parolin emphasized that the Bambino Gesù pediatric hospital has welcomed children from Palestine and Ukraine — children who have personally experienced the horrors of war.

The humanitarian effort, both in caring for those affected by the war and also regarding the exchange of prisoners, can be a preparatory path toward peace.
These words came as 1,340 days had passed since the war began on Ukrainian territory, amid the international community’s negotiations to achieve the long-awaited peace.
