Pope Leo XIV and the President of Palestine met in Rome amidst the apparent ceasefire in Gaza.
Good morning Mr. President.
Good morning.
Welcome.
Thank you very much for receiving me and I'm happy and glad to be here again.
They had spoken previously via phonecall in July, but had not yet met in an official audience. The meeting took place on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the official recognition of diplomatic relations.
The Vatican noted that the meeting was an opportunity to call for urgent assistance for the civilian population in Gaza.
The meeting occurred amidst
a ceasefire that seems increasingly fragile, especially following the latest attacks in southern Lebanon.
