During his Angelus address this Sunday, Pope Leo XIV expressed his closeness to the people of the Philippines affected by a violent typhoon.

The pontiff asked for prayers for the victims and for those who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

POPE LEO XIV

I express my closeness to the people of the Philippines affected by a violent typhoon; I pray for the deceased and their families, for the injured and the displaced.

Wars and the search for peace were once again central themes of his Angelus Address. The Pope thanked all those who work in regions affected by war and lamented the loss of life caused by conflict.

POPE LEO XIV

In recent days, we have prayed for the deceased, and among them, sadly, there are many who have died in combat and bombings, despite being civilians, children, the elderly and the sick. If we truly wish to honour their memory, let there be a ceasefire and let every effort be made in the negotiations.

Earlier on Sunday, the Pope celebrated the Feast of the Dedication of the Basilica of St. John Lateran by visiting this Basilica which is the historic seat of the Bishop of Rome.
