Pope Leo XIV visited the Church of St. Anselm to celebrate the 125th anniversary of its dedication. Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by the Abbot Primate Jeremias Schröder, who at the beginning of the celebration symbolically handed him the keys to the church.

The church, together with the abbey and the Pontifical Athenaeum, is part of the center that Pope Leo XIII promoted at the end of the 19th century to strengthen the Benedictine presence.

The monastery has been known as a place of growth, peace, hospitality, and unity — even during the darkest periods of history.

St. Anselm is also known as the starting point of the Ash Wednesday penitential procession to Santa Sabina, a traditional rite that has been maintained since 1962.
