Despite the complexity of Pope Francis' health situation, he was released from the Gemelli after 38 days. The cancellation of crucial events and a new virtual experience with St. Peter's Basilica also highlight the month of March.
Heading into March, Pope Francis continued his stay at the Gemelli hospital after suffering a double respiratory crisis and another bronchospasm, sparking more concern.
He then sent out a message to the faithful praying the rosary in St. Peter's Square, 21 days after his admission to the Gemelli. His voice was weak, but the message was one of hope and relief.
I thank you with all my heart for your prayers for my health from the square, I accompany you from here. God bless you and the Virgin take care of you. Thank you.
On March 13, Francis celebrated the anniversary of his pontificate in the hospital for the first time in his 12 years as Pope.
And then, the moment everyone was waiting for. Pope Francis was confirmed to be discharged from the Gemelli after 38 days. His first appearance occurred when he stepped out on the fifth-floor balcony of the hospital. He could only manage a few words, but was not short of jokes.
POPE FRANCIS
Thank you all. And I see this lady with the yellow flowers. She's good.
Despite his return to the Vatican, the Pope was prescribed a drug therapy and was recommended at least two months rest. This has already led to the cancellation of the King and Queen of England's visit to the Holy See and puts Francis' attendance at other important events at risk, such as the ones during Holy week.
In other news, a recent collaboration with Fabrica de San Pedro and Minecraft has resulted in a state-of-the-art virtual experience that uses artificial intelligence to create a digital replica of St. Peter's Basilica. This interactive experience will educate students in a new way, allowing them to explore the Basilica in the virtual world.
