Pope Leo XIV has already scheduled a new consistory with the College of Cardinals for this year. It appears it will take place from June 27-28, one day before the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul.
CARD. CRISTÓBAL LÓPEZ ROMERO
Archbishop of Rabat (Morocco)
He has already invited us for June 27 and 28. I imagine you already know that. And then he said that perhaps every year, for three or four days, instead of making two trips, one trip a year is enough, but a bit longer.
The time at this recent consistory was limited, and only two of the four major topics for discussion were addressed—synodality and the missionary nature of the Church—which is likely why the Pope wants to host 3-4 day consistories on an annual basis moving forward.
These recent moves of Pope Leo give evidence of his desire to strengthen the College of Cardinals, that is, the collegiality of the Church, giving due consideration to the various situations throughout the world and listening to cardinals from every corner of the planet.
