Pope Leo recently approved a decree recognizing a miracle attributed to the Argentinian businessman Enrique Shaw.
For a person to be declared Blessed there are two requirements. On the one hand, it must first be verified that he or she lived the virtues of faith in an extraordinary way. On the other, there must be a miracle that is scientifically inexplicable.
Shaw’s intercession was sought when a child under the age of five suffered a serious accident after being kicked by a horse, which caused a traumatic brain injury.
The boy’s parents, who were connected to the Christian Association of Business Leaders—founded by Enrique Shaw himself—prayed for the intercession of the soon to be Blessed. A miracle occurred and the child began a process of recovery with no lasting health effects.
In 2019, he underwent several medical examinations, and today the boy leads a completely normal life.
The future Blessed was committed to bringing the Church’s Social Doctrine into the business world. As an entrepreneur, he always strove to treat his workers with respect and justice.
Shaw, the father of nine children, died from cancer in 1961. He was only 41 years old.
His example of dedication and commitment to both business leaders and workers was a legacy that even Pope Francis praised.
01:05 – “This great guy is going to be a saint, huh? He’s going to be a saint.”
01:26 – “A great businessman and a great man of the Church. You’ll see that very soon he’s going to be a saint.”
In addition to Shaw, the Church will declare 11 other Blesseds: the Spanish martyrs who were killed during the violent anti-Christian persecution that took place between 1936 and 1937 during the Spanish Civil War. They were nine seminarians, one diocesan priest, and one layman.
