At the Apostalic Palace, Pope Leo XIV received the relatives of young people who died or were injured in the catastrophe that took place on New Year’s Day at the Crans-Montana ski resort in Switzerland.

POPE LEO XIV
At the very least, I wanted to have the opportunity to share a moment which, for you, in the midst of so much pain and suffering, is truly a test of our faith, a test of what we believe in. And one so often asks: why? Why, Lord?

In response to this question, Pope Leo then pointed to the answer, which is none other than the very foundation of the Christian faith.

POPE LEO XIV

I cannot explain to you, dear brothers and sisters, why you and your loved ones have been asked to face such a trial.
Your hope is not in vain, because Christ has truly risen.

The relatives of the deceased were all Italian. Some of the young people who witnessed the horror during the fire are still being treated at Niguarda Hospital in Milan.
