Pope Leo expresses his condolences for the victims of a railway tragedy in Spain

Two trains in the south of the Spain derailed on the afternoon of January 18, killing and severely injuring several people. Pope Leo XIV offered his condolences in wake of the tragedy.

The Pope's message of comfort and healing came in the form of a telegram through Cardinal Parolin. In it, Pope Leo imparted his apostolic blessing.
His Holiness extends his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, along with expressions of consolation, deep concern, and wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured. While encouraging rescue teams to persevere in their efforts of relief and assistance, the Holy Father bestows upon all, through the intercession of Our Lady of the Pillar, his comforting Apostolic Blessing, as a sign of hope in the Risen Lord.

The telegram was addressed to Luis Argüello, the president of the Spanish Episcopal Conference.
