With the last brick and the final blessing, the Door of Saint Peter has now been permanently sealed. It was the final step to formally conclude the 2025 Jubilee of Hope.
The sealing ceremony was presided over by Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, Archpriest of St. Peter’s Basilica, together with Archbishop Diego Giovanni Ravelli, Master of Pontifical Liturgical Celebrations.
The rite began with a prayer offered for all the pilgrims who crossed through the Holy Door during the year.
The door was sealed with 3,200 bricks, making it physically unusable until it is unsealed for the next ordinary jubilee of 2050.
A bronze-and-lead chest, containing the official parchment of the opening and closing of the Jubilee, was placed inside the brick sealing wall—a liturgical act symbolizing the spiritual end of the holy year.
