The Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls welcomed Pope Leo on January 25. He presided over Second Vespers for the Solemnity of the Conversion of Saint Paul, whose remains are buried in the church.

The Pope was accompanied by representatives of different Christian denominations. Marking the culmination of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, the Pope recalled the importance of fostering that same unity.

POPE LEO XIV

Yes, we share the same faith in the one God, Father of all humanity; together we confess the one Lord and true Son of God, Jesus Christ.
We are one! We already are! Let us acknowledge it, experience it, and manifest it!

Pope Leo also emphasized the Church’s synodal journey, turning his remarks to the upcoming Extraordinary Jubilee to be celebrated in 2033.

POPE LEO XIV

I believe that this is a path for growing together in mutual knowledge of our respective synodal structures and traditions. As we look toward the 2000th anniversary of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of the Lord Jesus in 2033, let us commit ourselves to further developing ecumenical synodal practices and to sharing with one another who we are, what we do, and what we teach.

And during the celebration, Pope Leo's new mosaic in the church was illuminated for the first time in his presence, honoring the 267th successor of St. Peter.
