A papal trip to the Principality of Monaco may be on the horizon. According to a report by the Holy See Press Office, the French news agency i.Media says Pope Leo XIV may potentially visit this coming March.

The visit would be a one-day round trip and would mark the first time in history that a pope has visited the territory.

Pope Leo received Prince Albert II of Monaco at the Vatican back on January 17. But the prince's first visit, along with his wife, Princess Charlène, had been the first Mass of the pope’s papacy last May.

Besides the Vatican, Monaco is the smallest state in the world, with a population of just under 40,000 people. Catholicism is the state religion, and approximately 90% of the population is Catholic.

With this potential visit, Monaco would join the ever-growing list of destinations the pope is planning to visit throughout 2026.
