Upon entering the Paul VI Hall for the weekly audience, Pope Leo XIV greeted 7,000 faithful. In usual fashion, he blessed babies and personal items from pilgrims.

But the pope did something special when he reached the podium: standing before a statue of Our Lady of Lourdes, he lit a candle and sang the Ave Maria for her feast day with those gathered.

After this moment, Pope Leo resumed his catechesis series, turning again to Dei Verbum, one of the four constitutions of Vatican II.

POPE LEO XIV
We live surrounded by many words, but how many of them are empty. At times we also listen to wise words that, however, do not touch our ultimate destiny. The Word of God, instead, meets our thirst for meaning, for truth about our life.

He also referred to the post-synodal exhortation Verbum Domini, written by Benedict XVI in 2010, which emphasizes that the Bible is not merely an historical text, but the living word of God.
