It has been an unusual week at the Vatican. On Wednesday, for example, normal scenes like this were not seen:
The Pope’s weekly public catechesis.
The reason was simple. The Pope and senior officials of the Curia took part in the Lenten spiritual exercises that are held at the beginning of this liturgical season in the Pauline Chapel.
On the final day, the preacher reflected on the letter of Saint Bernard to the future Pope Eugene III, in which he speaks about the importance of surrounding oneself with upright and honest collaborators.
Now, Pope Leo XIV will resume his usual schedule after this several-day pause. He begins the month of March, during which he will often visit the parishes of his own diocese, Rome. He will also make the second trip of his pontificate, to Monaco, before presiding over the main celebrations of Holy Week — the first Holy Week of Pope Leo XIV.
