The Spaniard Luis Marín of Saint Martin is the new almoner of the pope. An Augustinian and, until now, the undersecretary of the Synod, he is one of the people closest to Pope Leo XIV, who was also the one to elevate him to the dignity of archbishop.

From now on, he will be the prefect of the Dicastery for Charity, that is, the person in charge of the Vatican department dedicated to helping those most disadvantaged. For example, he manages the Pope’s humanitarian aid to countries at war.

He will replace Cardinal Krajewski, whom Pope Francis appointed to the position of almoner in 2013, a few months after becoming pope. The discreet Cardinal Krajewski will now return to his home country: Poland.

He will go to Łódź to lead the pastoral governance of the archdiocese, which is also where he was born and where completed his seminary training.
