The Sacrament of Reconciliation, commonly referred to as confession, is one of the most difficult sacraments to experience: not just because it is complicated in itself, but because it touches deeply the vunerable human heart and conscience.
Pope Leo XIV has raised a question about the need for Christians to put the sacrament into practice, especially in the midst of the escalation of an armed conflict.
POPE LEO XIV
One might ask: do those Christians who bear serious responsibility in armed conflicts have the humility and courage to make a serious examination of conscience and to go to confession
This is the question the pontiff posed to himself and to the 400 participants of the Internal Forum Course of the Apostolic Penitentiary, whom he received in the Clementine Hall of the Apostolic Palace.
He recalled that every Christian is required to go to confession at least once a year. In the midst of the rising escalation in the Middle East, the pontiff encourages Christians to become aware of their behavior, especially during this time of Lent.
