This moment marks the beginning of Holy Week in Rome.

A different year, and with it the Palm Sunday procession led by the new pontiff—Pope Leo XIV for his first Holy Week at the helm of the Church.

During the Mass that followed, the Pope chose to focus his homily on a renewed and spirited call for peace, powerful words that set the tone for the celebration:

POPE LEO XIV
“Above all, we hear the cry of pain of all those oppressed by violence and of all the victims of war. Christ, King of Peace, continues to cry out from His cross: God is love! Have mercy! Lay down your arms, remember that you are brothers!”

His moving message resonated throughout St. Peter's square where 20,000 faithful gathered one week before Easter—to listen to and to pray with Pope Leo.
