During the most recent press conference with journalists in Castel Gandolfo, Pope Leo was asked if he had any words for the leaders of the United States and Israel as conflict in the Middle East continues and grows. This was his response:
POPE LEO XIV
“I'm told that President Trump has recently stated that he would like to end the war. Hopefully he's looking for an 'off-ramp'. Hopefully he's looking for a way to decrease the amount of violence, of bombing, which would be a significant contribution to removing the hatred that's being created and that's increasing constantly in the Middle East and elsewhere.”
The pope then urged all political leaders involved in the conflict to return to the table of dialogue in the pursuit and interest of peace—especially at this time when billions of Christians throughout the world prepare to celebrate Easter.
He also urged Christians not only to pray for peace but to pray for the victims of violence and war.
