One of the most powerful moments of Holy Week is the baptism of adults during the Easter Vigil. Pope Leo presided over the ceremony in St. Peter’s Basilica, a rite that is also celebrated in various churches across the Eternal City.
Alejandro, an engineering student, is among those who had the blessing of receiving baptism in Rome this year. His parents are from China, and he, born in Spain, took this step at 18 years old while studying.

Since I was little, I always felt a restlessness, a sense that the Lord God was calling me to do something better, to serve others, mainly. And that gradually grew as I got older.

Charity seems to me a very important point in the Christian faith, because it’s about loving others, right? For example, I’ve participated in quite a few volunteer activities following others, and yes, even by doing just a little… you can help a lot of people. Because people already have many problems in their lives, and with just a little, you can make them happy.
In a secularized society, there is something that the younger generations feel is missing.

I’ve noticed that more people, in the society we live in now, since everything moves so fast, are looking for something… They live very fast. And in the end, they live without feeling anything inside, something is missing, and they need to satisfy it with the Spirit of the Lord, with the spirit of faith.
On his journey to baptism, there is one book that has particularly influenced him.

A very small, well-known book by Saint Josemaría, which is the one I began reading. It’s quite basic, but it helps to start this whole journey of faith. Right? Who is God? And everything. It’s called 'The Way.'
Alejandro experienced Holy Week in Rome with a group from Opus Dei in San Sebastián, Spain. They were participating in the UNIV forum alongside 2,500 university students from around the world.
