This was the scene in St. Peter’s Square on the morning of the general audience. Pilgrims from all over the world gathered, not wanting to miss the traditional Wednesday catechesis.

Many took advantage of the Pope’s ride in the popemobile to see him up close. Some even get a bit luckier—like this moment:

In addition to blessing many babies along the way, Pope Leo also stopped to sign objects handed to him by the faithful.

After his catechetical reflection and greetings in various languages, Pope Leo usually makes a more political appeal regarding current world events.

In light of recent developments in Ukraine, Iran, Israel, and Gaza, Pope Leo XIV called for respect for international law and an end to the war.

POPE LEO XIV
We must not grow accustomed to war. On the contrary, we must reject the allure of powerful and sophisticated weaponry as a temptation. In fact, since today’s wars involve all kinds of scientific weapons, their atrocity threatens to drive combatants to a level of barbarity far greater than in the past.

In recent days, both the conflict in Ukraine and the one affecting the Holy Land have escalated. Regarding the crisis between Israel and Iran, Pope Leo has already spoken—urging reason and responsibility.
