What would a greeting between Jesus and the Pope be like? Something similar happened in the Vatican, creating a rather special and unusual face-to-face encounter.
However, this Jesus Christ did not appear from Heaven; instead, he is the main actor in the series The Chosen. But his striking resemblance to Our Lord makes this encounter extremely memorable.
The cast of the famous series The Chosen arrived at the Vatican for the premiere of its fifth season: The Last Supper.
One of the most moving voices this season is that of the actress who plays the Virgin Mary, who shared her experience portraying Jesus' mother during His journey to the cross:
VANESSA BENAVENTE, Actress, Virgin Mary
It's when she is slowly saying goodbye to her son and it it never ceases to amaze me how much this woman just gave herself, her whole self to this, to this project, to this story. She was the first one to say yes when there was nothing there. Talk about faith. You know, just like really jumping into something unknown.
This season, viewers enter The Last Supper: a moment that prepares for and brings the audience closer to the Crucifixion, which will be revealed in the next season. Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus, acknowledged that, during the first seasons, he could not think about that moment.

And then all day Thursday, and then there we are, Good Friday. And so, there was this impending sadness and sorrow that began to find its way into my work and my thoughts and my feelings about how we were going to approach season five… And so it became unavoidable to have that constantly in the back of my head, knowing what was coming, especially for moments like the Last Supper.
Roumie also took the opportunity to highlight the series' innovative approach in portraying Jesus not only as divine, but profoundly human:
JONATHAN ROUMIE, Actor, Jesus
Generally, you know, Jesus's character, especially the stuff that's non-scriptural, starts with our screenwriters and you know, they, they've taken, they've made a point to bring the joy of Jesus, the love of Jesus, the serenity of Jesus, the humor of Jesus to the page as a reflection of the fullness of his humanity.
With more than 900 million views, The Chosen is positioned as one of the most successful and influential productions. This fifth season paves the way for an unforgettable conclusion.
