Credentials in the Vatican are official documents that accredit an ambassador as their country's representative to the Holy See.

The protocol establishes two steps: first, a copy of the letters is delivered to the Secretariat of State of the Holy See, and then the official ones are delivered to the Pope.

Upon presentation, the ambassador is authorized to fully exercise his diplomatic functions.

Brian Burch, recently appointed United States Ambassador to the Holy See, presented the first step: a copy of the credentials to Monsignor Edgar Peña Parra, as announced by the Secretariat of State of the Holy See on its social media.

Donald Trump appointed him in December 2024. Throughout his life, he has served as president of Catholic Vote. He is Catholic and grew up in the same city as Pope Leo XIV: Chicago.
