| (VIDEO ONLY) Up to 27 new Swiss Guards swore to protect – with their lives if necessary – the Pope. The ceremony was originally scheduled for May 6th, the anniversary of the massacre of soldiers who tried to defend the Pope during the Sack of Rome. However, the death of Pope Francis and the conclave forced a change of dates. In total, the Vatican’s tiny army consists of 135 Swiss Guards. |
