Javier Sartorius has often been described as a modern-day Saint Augustine. Before his conversion, he lived a wild and confused youth filled with parties, drugs, and sex.

He tried everything and lived everything. He had relationships with women and with some men. He experienced it all. He used to say, “From the menu of life, I’ve tried everything, but nothing fills the heart. Nothing truly fills my heart.”

When we were in Madrid, we spent all our time in nightclubs, living the Madrid nightlife. You know, places like Pacha and all the clubs. It was a time when we drank a lot and used drugs, though nothing hard, just hashi or marijuana. But going to America changed us.

Their parents decided to send both Javier and his brother to America in hopes of helping them straighten out their lives. During that time, Javier encountered people living in poverty. The impact of that experience caused a deep inner transformation.

He decided to give everything up, leaving behind his wealth to become a missionary in the Third World. He lived and worked among the poor, beginning a deep inner journey and developing a strong desire for holiness. Eventually, he entered a monastery, seeking peace and dedicating his life to God through that way of living, following a profound spiritual path.

In 2006, when he was just over 40 years old, Javier passed away in the monastery due to an illness. His story now comes to the big screen through Solo Javier, which has already reached 25,000 views.

I have always loved stories with a universal message, ones that anyone, no matter their culture or religion, can watch and feel touched by. Stories that convey truth, beauty, and a search for meaning.

This story even reached the Vatican. During an audience, the filmmakers presented the Pope with a tennis ball and some momentos from the movie. Efforts are now underway to promote Javier’s cause for beatification.
