What do It’s a Wonderful Life, The Sound of Music, Ordinary People, and Life is Beautiful all have in common?

Besides the fact that all of them are films that teach important values about hope, family, loyalty, and human dignity, they are also among the favorite movies of Pope Leo XIV. Yes, you heard that right… the Pope’s favorite films have been revealed.

Each of these movies, in one way or another, has left a mark on the pontiff and will be used during the meeting the Pope will hold next Saturday with members of the film industry.

Cate Blanchett, Monica Bellucci, Raoul Bova, and Giuseppe Tornatore are just a few of the more than 70 national and international actors and actresses who will gather with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican.

The event will honor the legacy of the Jubilee of Artists and the World of Culture, which was celebrated last February.

This is not the first time the Vatican has welcomed some of the most important stars of the seventh art. Not long ago, Pope Leo met with Robert De Niro, the star of The Godfather and Taxi Driver.

Robert Redford, who passed away a few months ago, had the opportunity to greet Pope Francis during a general audience.

Leonardo DiCaprio spoke with Pope Francis about climate change, and Sylvester Stallone, the actor who brought the now-iconic Rocky to life, mourned his passing last April on social media, calling him “a wonderful man.”

Despite the short time since the beginning of his pontificate, Pope Leo XIV has also had the chance to meet some others: the cast of the popular series, The Chosen, came to the Vatican for the presentation of its fifth season.

This meeting promises to be a unique opportunity to win the “Oscar for the best encounter” between the world of cinema and the heart of the Church.
