During his weekly Wednesday audience, Pope Leo XIV continues his catechesis on the principal documents of the Second Vatican Council.

He focused on the document Lumen Gentium, which means “Light of the Nations” and addresses the mission of a “complex reality” in the world and in the Church:

POPE LEO XIV

The Church is described as a “complex reality,” insofar as both the human and divine dimensions coexist within it, integrating harmoniously—without separation and without confusion.

Pope Leo XIV emphasized that the human dimension is made up of men and women who have virtues and flaws, while the divine dimension refers to God’s loving plan for humanity. This duality makes it a concept unlike anything we know:

POPE LEO XIV

Let us remember that there is no ideal and pure Church, separate from the world, but rather one incarnated in history.

Additionally, the Pope dedicated a few words to three groups in society: young people, newlyweds, and the sick.

POPE LEO XIV

I recommend the virtue of patience, so that your suffering, united with that of Christ, may be a pleasing offering to the Father. And I encourage you, dear newlyweds, to discover the value of prayer in the “domestic church” you have formed.

Pope Leo XIV encouraged them to use this Lenten season to discover the true hope for humanity.
