That distinctive mozzetta and the famous red shoes can now be seen up close. But the exhibition of the German pope's clothing is not in Rome, nor in a major city—it's here in Pordenone, in northern Italy. But what does this town have to do with Benedict XVI?
In 2027, Pordenone will become the Italian Capital of Culture. And that same year coincides with the 100 year anniversary of the birth of Benedict XVI in Bavaria, Germany.

However, April 16, 2027 is approaching—but we are already close to April 16, 2026, which will mark 99 years since the birth of Benedict XVI and the beginning of the centenary.
Benedict XVI's exhibition will include dozens of personal objects that belonged to the German pope: this zucchetto that he frequently wore, or this mitre that he used several times.
The exhibition will also tell about his earlier years. As head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger lived in this building for 23 years. His first public outing was pope was to his former apartment.
There are also objects from that time, some of which might go unnoticed. Look closely at these pieces… Would you know their origins or why they were in Ratzinger's apartment?

In Bavarian Catholic homes, there is a custom of keeping a holy water font in the entrance room, and he had one in every room. It is a small, seemingly insignificant object, but this is not an exhibition about artistic treasures. At this unique exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to watch a special, biographical, Emmy-award winning documentary—produced by Rome Reports—about the life and lasting legacy of Pope Benedict XVI.
