Banners both with the motto for the trip, “Lift up your eyes” (Alzad la mirada), and with words of welcome for Pope Leo XIV hung everywhere above the 1.2 million Spanish faithful who waited to greet the pope during his visit to Madrid.
He arrived as usual riding on the popemobile, and spent several minutes traveling through the streets and among the multitudes of people, greeting them and blessing them as he went. Pope Leo then concluded his ride at Plaza de Cibeles where he was scheduled to celebrate Mass for the Feast of Corpus Christi.
