For more than 400 years, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has been addressing spiritual and material poverty around the world. Today, the Congregation has more than 2 million members, and every August 28th, the Church commemorates its holy founder.

To mark the occasion, Pope Leo XIV received a delegation from the society from the United States.

POPE LEO XIV

Saint Vincent de Paul demonstrated that prayer and social justice are not merely complementary but are in fact inseparable. It is therefore my hope that you will continually turn to your heavenly patron in order to follow his example and seek his intercession.

The Congregation of the Mission, founded by St. Vincent de Paul, holds many records: it's the largest male Society of Apostolic Life in the world, and the Daughters of the Charity, who belong to the Vincentian family, constitute the largest female religious community in the world.

POPE LEO XIV

Finally, when you return to your homes, please know that you do so accompanied by my prayers. In a particular way, I ask you to bring my warm greetings to your colleagues and to the people for whom you care.

The pope concluded the audience with a group photo.
