In the digital age, Leo XIV is raising a very human question: how can we remain a community when more and more relationships take place through a screen?
In his catechesis, the Pope returned to Gaudium et spes to speak about the human family, the common good, and the need to protect relationships that technology can bring closer, but can also make increasingly virtual.
Dear brothers and sisters, in our continuing catechesis on the Second Vatican Council’s
document, Gaudiem et Spes, today we focus on the importance of human relationships. Our understanding of human community is based on the foundation of the dignity of the human person.
Instead of seeing differences as a danger or threat, the vision of humanity as a community of persons
enables us to work together to seek the common good. When we move beyond an individualistic
mindset to adopt an attitude of responsibility and participation in the effort to build a more humane
and just world, social relationships are enriched with real substance and personal depth. They likewise
contribute to the fulfillment of each human person and the development of society. Dear brothers and
sisters, let us renew our commitment to realizing, in Christ, the precious gift of our humanity.
