Leo XIV could not hide his emotion as he joined thousands of faithful in singing the Salve Regina in Latin at Notre-Dame. The cathedral, which hours earlier had hosted Vespers with bishops and seminarians, concluded the celebration with one of the most traditional Marian hymns in the liturgy.
It was a particularly symbolic moment at Notre-Dame, rebuilt following the 2019 fire: the voice of the Pope and those of thousands of French faithful joined together in Latin beneath the cathedral’s vaults, as the historic church continues its return to worship following its reopening.
