Pope Leo XIV stopped to pray at the Church of Saint-Joseph-des-Carmes, located within the Institut Catholique de Paris. The church is part of the former convent of the Discalced Carmelites and preserves the memory of the religious persecution that took place during the French Revolution.
In September 1792, dozens of priests and religious were killed there, and their relics are now preserved in the crypt. The Institute also recalls that Blessed Frédéric Ozanam taught at the site and that Christian de Chergé, one of the monks of Tibhirine, also passed through the institution.
