During the flight from Lourdes to Metz, on the final day of Pope Leo XIV’s apostolic journey in France, the captain invited the pope into the cockpit to serve as an “officer of the flight” on his own journey.
It was a scene reminiscent of Spain, where the pope also enjoyed a view from the cockpit as he arrived in Barcelona.
Escorted by two fighter jets, Leo XIV made his way to an interfaith gathering, the first stop of Monday, September 28, before returning to Rome that evening.
