Pope Leo XIV's recent lung cancer diagnosis has sparked a wave of support from around the world.

One message in particular has caught the attention of the media.

DONALD J. TRUMP
President of the USA
I want to see Pope Leo get well. I hear the prognosis for that type of a problem. It's cancer. It's big stuff, anytime you have cancer. But the prognosis seems to be good. I've watched. And we just want to wish him our love and our best wishes. His brother's a friend of mine. He's a great-- he's a fantastic guy. his wife. You know, they're big Trump supporters. They have MAGA all over their house. And I can say that his brother loves him a lot, loves the Pope a lot. And that's good. That's good enough for me. But I just want to wish him well. Get better fast.

From the United States, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that he and his wife are praying for the Pope and for the healthcare professionals caring for him.

In Peru, President Kae-ko Fuji-mori has called for a prayer chain for his recovery.

In Italy, President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed their support on Sunday, when Leo XIV announced that he would have to undergo surgery. At the time it was not yet known if the lesion was cancerous.

The illness has also affected the Church’s agenda. A gathering marking the 10th anniversary of Amoris Laetitia took place in Rome.

The participants had hoped to hear from the Pope during the event, but his hospitalization forced them to continue without him.

President of the Spanish Episcopal Conference

We were very sorry that the Pope could not be with us, so that he could have listened to the speeches and we, in turn, could have heard what he wanted to say to us.

I believe that in recent months, the Pope has been experiencing a strong consolidation of his pontificate, a powerful demonstration of his presence and activity, conveying both enthusiasm and peace.

In St. Peter's Square, that concern has a human face. Many pilgrims have planned their trip to meet the Pope.

MARÍA LUISA SÁNCHEZ
México
Well, it's very sad—it's because I just found out it's cancer, and it's sad for him, right? And for me, too, because I made a special trip to see him and wasn't able to.

Latin America was looking forward to the pope's visit, and for now, they are waiting for confirmation. Many remain hopeful that Pope Leo XIV will be able to visit their country in November.

FABIANA
Argentina
Yes, I think so, because, besides, Argentina has been preparing for next month's arrival for months now, and I think he’s going to come out of all this—the whole operation, of course—just fine.

World leaders, church leaders, and pilgrims all share the same hope: that Pope Leo XIV will recover and be able to resume his activities.
