With this letter, the Superior of the Heralds of the Gospel, Joí£o Scognamiglio Clá Dias, announces his resignation as Superior General. He thus opens the process for choosing a successor.

He clarifies that 'he does not renounce his mission as a father' and that he will continue 'at the disposal of each and every one, knowing he's constituted by God as the model and living guardian of this charism.'

Brazilian 77-year-old, Joí£o Scognamiglio Clá Dias founded the clerical society of apostolic life 'Virgo Flos Carmeli' and the private association of faithful 'Heralds of the Gospel,' well known for their characteristic habit. They claim that they are in almost 70 countries and have more than 4,000 members.

Vaticanist Andrea Tornielli explains in the 'Vatican Insider that the resignation of the superior could have to do with the Vatican opening an investigation of the
institute.

The Holy See wants to clarify if within this organization there is an exaggerated devotion to its founders and
its hitherto
superior, since it appears they were invoked for some prayers and even during alleged exorcisms.

If the investigation is confirmed, his resignation will probably make clarifying the situation much easier.

UPDATE:
As of today, June 16, 2017, the Vatican has not yet opened any investigation.

UPDATE 2 by Rome Bureau of Tradition Family Property (TFP):
Plinio Corríªa de Oliveira, 'Brazilian thinker and
man of action gave rise to a reality that was entirely different from that of the Heralds of the Gospel.

'Although a provisional judicial ruling in Brazil has given them legal possession of the TFP there and in some other countries, the Heralds of the Gospel do not continue the thought, practices, and action that characterized Prof. Plinio Corríªa de Oliveira, the moral founder of this vast spiritual family. Instead, they organized themselves under a name he never knew during his life (1908-1995)â?.

'Numerous people who followed Prof. Plinio Corríªa de Oliveira for decadesâ??be it due to their close proximity to him resulting from family and/or civil and institutional relations, be it others like the undersigned who represented him in Rome in the last twelve years of his lifeâ??unanimously testify to the fact that nothing similar to the stories narrated in the videos and news items circulating about the Heralds of the Gospel ever occurred in the presence of the Brazilian TFPâ??s founder, or, to the best of their knowledge, in any of the TFP associations.â?
