The pope received the credentials of the new ambassador of Georgia, Princess Khétévane Bagrationi-Orsini.

The diplomat, who was an ambassador at the Vatican from 2005 to 2014, attended the meeting accompanied by her collaborators and her 94-year-old mother.

“This is something unbelievable! My mother will remember it for the rest of her life.”

“I am so happy, so happy.”

The pope was especially affectionate toward the elderly woman. He constantly extended his hand to her throughout the reception.

The ambassador gave Pope Francis a mosaic by a Georgian artist depicting St. Joseph's dream... She also gave him this cross made by young people from Caritas Georgia... a book of Georgian script and images of ancient manuscripts... and this bottle of red wine with elaborate designs made by refugees from South Ossetia.

The new ambassador belongs to a branch of the Bagrationi family, who ruled in Georgia from the Middle Ages until the 19th century.
