But they are televised live; they are talked about in euphemisms and with apparent tolerance, but nothing is done systematically to heal the social wounds or to confront the structures that leave so many brothers and sisters by the wayside”.

Pope names a Special Envoy for Medjugorje

Pope Francis advances eight new causes of sainthood

January 23, 2017. On January 20, Pope Francis met with Cardinal Angelo Amato, the prefect for the Congregation for the Causes of Saints to announce the publication of decrees for the advancement of eight causes of sainthood.

At 7:00 am, the papal plane takes off from Rome Fiumicino Airport. 

At 10:20 am, the papal plane arrives at Mytilene International Airport on the island of Lesbos.

WELCOME CEREMONY

At the foot of the papal plane ladder, the Pope will be received by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. Also, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of the Orthodox Church and the Orthodox Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos.

The Capuchin Fragkiskos Papamanolis and President of the Greek Episcopal Conference will also be in attendance.

At 10:35 am, a meeting with the Prime Minister will be held at the airport.

At 10:55 am, The Pope goes on a minibus with Patriarch Bartholomew and Archbishop Ieronymos to the Moria refugee camp (10 miles).

At 11:15 am, he will arrive at the Moria refugee camp (which hosts some 2,500 asylum seekers).

VISIT TO REFUGEES

Between the barriers, he will be greeted by about 150 minors residing in the center.

They will cross an area dedicated to the registration of people, and come to a tent where he will personally greet and about 250 asylum seekers.

At 12:25 pm, there will be speeches by Archbishop Ieronymos in Greek, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in English, and Pope Francis in Italian.

At 12.40 pm, they sign a joint statement.

At 12:45 pm, the three leaders, along with 8 refugees from Moira will have lunch

At 1:30 pm, Transfer to the Port (5 miles)

Then, the three religious leaders will recite a short prayer, have a moment of silence and throw three wreaths into the sea.

At 2:15 pm, transfer by minibus to the airport (2 miles).

Private meeting with the Ecumenical Patriarch.

Meeting with the Prime Minister.

At 3:00 pm, Farewell ceremony.

At 3:15 pm, Departure from the plane to Rome.

At 3:30 pm, Arrival to Rome-Ciampino Airport.
