The pope denounces the "moral blindness of this indifference”: "under the guise of what is politically correct or ideologically fashionable, one looks at those who suffer without touching them. But they are televised live; they are talked about in euphemisms and with apparent tolerance, but nothing is done systematically to heal the social wounds or to confront the structures that leave so many brothers and sisters by the wayside”.

Pope video for peace in Syria inspires Canadian national day of prayer

2016-10-04

"The war in Syria has caused 4.8 million refugees and 6.5 internal refugees. Enough is enough!”

This is the slogan Caritas Internationalis is using to launch their campaign to encourage and pray for peace in Syria.

A July video from Pope Francis pleading for peace in the Middle East, inspired the Caritas Canada national day of prayer for peace in Syria on Tuesday, October 4.

POPE FRANCIS
"I encourage all, adults and young people, to live the Holy Year of Mercy enthusiastically to overcome indifference and proclaim with strength that peace in Syria is possible!”

This day of prayer was organized by the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace-Caritas Canada, and it is part of a larger campaign called "Syria: Peace is Possible.”

In addition to the Canadian day of prayer on the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the Holy See has also announced that an international and ecumenical day of prayer will be held at the end of the month, October 31. The upcoming day of prayer will be for peace throughout the Middle East.
