Pope Francis meets with the president of Burkina Faso

With these words, Pope Francis welcomed the president of Burkina Faso.

"Thank you for your warm welcome. Thank you very much.”
"Thank you.”

He talked one-on-one with Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, and after a while, a translator joined the conversation.

They addressed issues such as the diplomatic relations between the Holy See and Burkina Faso, the contributions of the Church to healthcare and education, and issues such as the coexistence of different religions.

The president introduced Pope Francis to his wife, whose birthday was today, a circumstance the pope did not overlook.

"Happy birthday.”
"Thank you very much.”

Afterwards, they presented the pope with a gift, handmade by orphans of their country.

"Thank you. I am touched.”

Pope Francis reciprocated by giving them a copy of the three most important documentos of his pontificate.

Before they left, the president's wife thanked the pope for his prayers for Burkina Faso and Roch Marc Christian Kaboré told him that they are awaiting his visit in their country. Who knows if Burkina Faso might be the pope's next destination in Africa.
