Pope Francis prayed the Angelus on Sunday before an array of colorful umbrellas in St. Peter's Square. However, the bad weather did not stop the thousands of pilgrims from coming. Pope Francis asked them to reflect on the resurrection, because, he said, it is the cornerstone of Christianity.
"But be careful! The resurrection is not only the fact of resurrection after death, but it is a new kind of life that we experience already, even today; it is the victory over anything that we can already anticipate."
Pope Francis recalled that belief in the resurrection is essential in every act of Christian love, so it is not short-lived, but lasts over time and give rise to new works.
"The 'children of heaven and resurrection' are not a privileged few, but they are all men and all women, because the salvation brought by Jesus is for everyone. And the life of resurrection will be similar to that of the angels, that is, everyone immersed in the light of God, completely dedicated to His praise, in an eternity full of joy and peace."
The pope used the occasion of the Jubilee of Prisoners to ask that in prisons around the world, prisoners are treated correctly and are helped in their re-integration into society upon completion of their sentences.
