Slovenian Cardinal Franc Rodé turned 80 years old today, reducing the number of cardinal electors to 113.

The cardinal is the prefect emeritus of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.

During his time as prefect, Cardinal Rodé emphasized the importance of religious life in the New Evangelization.

CARD. FRANC RODÉ
January 19, 2007
'Surely, the evangelization or the new evangelization of the world, especially in certain countries, can be fulfilled and cannot be done differently without the contribution of consecrated men and women, of religious men and women.

He was elevated to the College of Cardinals by Benedict XVI on March 24, 2006. He was also present at the conclave that elected Pope Francis.

Cardinal Rodé will now pass to the group of cardinal non-electors, who are now 97 for a total of 210 in the College of Cardinals.
