There are many difficulties inflicting the youngest country in the world, South Sudan. One of them, is the highest mortality rate among mothers.
The distance from hospitals, the collapse of its precarious health system and the civil war are some of main reasons for this. Many mothers are forced to give birth in refugee camps like these, with very little medical resources.

'The general situation from the beginning was very bad, you have seen such mothers who are delivering without assistance, health services were not there and a lot has happened.'
In South Sudan, 2,054 mothers die for every 100,000 babies born. Also, 10 of every 100 children die before the age of 5.
This country is only an example of the high mortality rate that affects Sub-Saharan Africa. While 1 in ever 4,700 women die in Europe or North America, in Africa, 1 in every 40 women die.
Every day in the world 800 newborns lose their mothers after birth. 400 women die daily during childbirth in Africa.
In order to end these dire statistics, the Amref Flying Doctors NGO has launched a campaign 'Mai piu senza mammaâ? (Never again without a mom) with the goal of training nurses that can assist with childbirths. The NGO is the largest international health organization that began and is managed in Africa.
With adequate medical attention, African mothers will be able to give birth in safer conditions, and like other mothers around the world, will be able to see their children grow up.
