Francis departed from Rome this morning at 8:20am local time. The sun was shining as he boarded the plane and just as his trip to Brazil, he was carrying his simple black bag.

Three hours and 45 minutes later, he arrived at the Queen Alia airport in Amman. The Pope exited the plane by himself, and two children greeted him with bouquets of black irises, Jordanâ??s national flower.

Pope Francis was received by a representative of the King and promoter of dialogue with Christians, Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad.

The Prince and Pope Francis spoke for ten minutes before a car arrived to take the Pope to the Royal Palace of Hussein, 38 kilometers away.

Once at the Royal Palace, Pope Francis was greeted by the King and Queen of Jordan, Abdullah II and Rania, along with their four children.
