Costa Rica has a new ambassador to the Holy See.

'Here are my credentials.â?

This is Marco Vinicio Vargas Pereira. Before this post, he served as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and also as Costa Rica's ambassador to Uruguay.

During their brief meeting, gifts were exchanged. The Pope gave him a copy of his apostolic exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium, adding that it's not enough to just read it.

Evangelii Gaudium. Read it. Study it!

The ambassador is taking over the post once held by the youngest ambassador to the Holy See, Fernando Sánchez. He served for almost four years. During that time, the country's president visited the Vatican on three occasions.
