Pope Francis celebrated Mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Pope made this announcement in St. Peter's Basilica, which was full of pilgrims.

POPE FRANCIS
'I will travel to venerate this sanctuary next February 13th. There I will ask for all this for all of America, especially from the Mother.

He will visit the Patroness of America in her sanctuary to pray for the suffering and joy of the people of Latin America. He will spend six intense days in Mexico. One of the key moments will be when he celebrates Mass in the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Guadalupe on February 13th.

In his homily, Pope Francis focused on explaining the meaning of the word mercy in Spanish, 'misericordia.

POPE FRANCIS
'The word 'mercyâ? â?? misericordia - is composed of two words: misery (miseria) and heart (corazón ). The heart indicates the capacity to love; mercy is that love, which embraces the misery of the human person.â?

Further, the Pope added that no sin can prevent God from being merciful and compassionate to people. He added that Christ wanted to share that mercy with every fragile human.

POPE FRANCIS
'No sin can cancel his merciful closeness or prevent him from unleashing the grace of conversion, provided we invoke it...Howsoever great and grave the sins of the world, the Spirit, who renews the face of the earth, makes possible the miracle of a life that is more human, more full of joy and hope.

During the Mass, there was a particularly emotional moment for the Pope. He noted that December 12th marked 80 years since his parents were married.

POPE FRANCIS
'We pray for the souls of my father and my mother, Mario and Regina, who gave me life and passed the faith to me. Who on a day like today, 80 years ago, were married. We pray to the Lord.

The Mass ended with the song 'La Guadalupana. For the second year in a row, Pope Francis had celebrated a Mass in Our Lady of Guadalupe. It's a tradition that began with Pope Benedict XVI in 2011.
