“Nice to see you again.”

After this affectionate greeting, the meeting between Pope Francis and the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Kailash Satyarthi began.

This Indian activist has been fighting against child labor and exploitation for almost 30 years, mainly in his native land, India.

He went to the Vatican to present the work of his organization. He gave Pope Francis a very special gift. It is related to the speech he gave when he was awarded the Nobel Prize.

“When I was receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, I lost my papers and this story came to my mind.”

He explained to the pope that the story is about a bird sacrificing itself for the greater good in it's act of putting out a fire in a forest.

Kailash Satyarthi received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 together with the young Pakistani Malala. The Swedish Academy awarded him for his fight against the repression of children and young people. He was also awarded for his work in gaining the right for all children to receive education.
