In April, Pope Francis has asked Christians to pray for doctors and their humanitarian collaborators in war zones, because they risk their own lives to save the lives of others.
The pope said their presence is a sign of hope in areas devastated by conflicts.
Pope Francis recognized the enormous work these people do, saying they are “wise, valiant, and goodhearted people who, following their vocation, work under extremely dangerous conditions.”
The pope's Worldwide Prayer Network recalls there are currently more than 20 armed conflicts in the world. According to UNHCR, seven of these have caused a greater number of victims and forced displacements.
