Card. Reinhard Marx opened up the meeting between the pope and German Catholic and Evangelical journalists.

Pope Francis asked them to be professional and committed to the truth.

POPE FRANCIS
“I encourage you in your commitment to report facts and not fake news, facts and not rumors, to search for accuracy and not just headlines.”

The pope clearly stated some current issues that most concern him.

POPE FRANCIS
“The discussion of the right to life, the advancement of euthanasia, the denial of social equality, the lack of integration, the violation of human dignity and freedom of conscience.”

He asked journalists to be defenders of human freedom. The pope also told them not just to report on the bad, but also on the good. This is because there are many stories that can be a source for hope.
