Pope Francis met with representatives from the Italian Federation of Associations for the Deaf.

They work toward overcoming the isolation and marginalization of those with hearing and speech impediments.

During the meeting, Pope Francis called upon all institutions to overcome prejudice toward deaf people and encourage their active participation in society.

He reminded deaf people that they are a gift in the Church and have an important role to bringing the faith to many people.

POPE FRANCIS

“The presence of God is not perceived by the ears, but by faith.” FLASH “His voice resounds in the heart of each person, and everyone can hear it. In this way you can help those who do not 'hear' God's voice to be more attentive to it.”

At the end of the meeting they presented this painting of the Blessed Mother to Pope Francis. He encouraged deaf people across the world to help in bringing about a revolution of tenderness and closeness.
