Spring break is the perfect time for many to travel, relax or hit the beach. Yet, the Wyciskalla family took their first family trip to Europe to see their Uncle Fr. Tim during his final months of studying at the Gregorian University in Rome.

FR. TIM WYCISKALLA
“This is the third year that I've been here I was ordained for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis in Indiana. Then I came here in 2016. So I'm doing a three year degree in Canon Law at the Gregorian University on the other side of town over there.”

While the family didn't spend Easter in Rome, they are here for Easter week, taking advantage of the spring weather.

PATTY WYCISKALLA
“We came here yesterday and we're here until Sunday. It's been great. We've seen so many things just like within the one day so this is our day two and it's been great.”

They came to the Vatican for the pope's General Audience Wednesday, which could have been one of his most crowded all year.

They say they were very close to him when he passed by.

DOUG WYCISKALLA
“It was great. It was the first time we had the chance to see the pope as a family and be that close. It was awesome.”

PATTY WYCISKALLA
“Yes within probably 20 feet or so. So yeah, we were right up on stage. So it was very nice.”

But at the end of it all, Fr. Tim, is just happy to have his family in the Eternal City, to show them all his favorite parts of Rome.

FR. TIM WYCISKALLA
“To have my family come, yes, yes. This is toward the end. So my brother was the last one to come. So this... we saved the best for last.”

They'll continue their week-long “Roman Holiday,” as the city starts to get more and more crowded as schools end and Italian weather improves.
